TrialUs is a public interest research platform, with a mission to enable people to collaboratively propose and test the effectiveness of common health and wellbeing practices using simple, randomized trials. By putting scientific tools directly in the hands of the public, TrialUs aims to generate trustworthy evidence about what actually works in real life, while promoting scientific literacy and transparency.
Students joining the project will work on developing the TrialUs digital platform, with a particular focus on native mobile apps. This includes building user friendly tools for study participation, randomization, data capture, and feedback of results, while ensuring high standards of privacy, security, and usability. The work sits at the intersection of computer science, health, and citizen science, offering hands on experience in developing real world software with meaningful social impact.
The pre-prototype can be viewed here: www.trialus.life
The prototype native apps should at least work on Android and IOS systems.
The prototype native apps require the following features: - Registering and logging into a TrialUs account - Browsing and viewing studies by other users on the Studies Dashboard - Participating in or subscribing to studies created by other users, with data collected during the test saved locally on the user’s device by default and only shared with the study organiser if the user explicitly chooses to do so after participation - A results viewer for study organisers, to see current results
Past this MVP, students are encouraged to contribute the following:
- A online and working database for the app - A rework of the trialus.life website - Adding more features to the native app (Researcher Directory, Tutorials)
