LIDA 2.0 is a redesign of the Leiden Ice Database for Astrochemistry. We modernized an outdated platform by rebuilding it with a modern web stack while keeping the existing scientific database. Researchers can search, view, and download spectra more easily, while lab staff can manage data through a secure admin panel.
Every sprint solved one problem and revealed another.
Our client was Dr. Ko-Ju Chuang from Leiden Observatory, Leiden University. We had regular meetings throughout the project to discuss requirements, review progress, and gather feedback.
We worked using Scrum, with a Scrum Master and Product Owner coordinating the project. Tasks were divided based on expertise and sprint goals. The biggest challenge was migrating an existing Flask application to a modern architecture while preserving the existing database.
